As promised here is the Turnip Soup recipe!

Mrs Green’s Creamy Turnip Soup

Before you begin: WASH YOUR HANDS!

450g of turnips cut into chunks
1 Carrot grated
1tbs butter
1 onion sliced
half tsp dried rosemary
pinch of salt and pepper
500ml vegetable stock (made from a cube)
Extra hot water if you like it a little less thick!

table spoon (tbsp.)
teaspoon (tsp)
Measuring jug
Knife (adult to use this)
chopping board

1.    Heat 1tbs of oil and butter in a large saucepan. Add the onion and cook, stirring, until beginning to brown. (about 5 mins) Add the turnip, carrot, rosemary, salt and pepper and mix.

2.    Add the stock and bring the soup to the boil. Reduce to a simmer, cover and cook until the turnip is tender. (10 – 12 mins)

3.    Ask an adult to blend the soup so that it becomes delicious and creamy.

4.    Allow to cool a little, pour carefully into bowls and enjoy!

This sounds delicious Year One - particularly if you find an enormous turnip! Have you seen one anywhere?
