New Children's Laureate

Date: 16th Jun 2015 @ 9:43pm

I was so excited to hear that Waterstones have announced their new Children's Laureate as Chris Riddell. It's really inspirational that he is an author as well as a talented illustrator who has illustrated for well known authors such as Neil Gaiman (who many of you remembered was the author of 'Wolves in the walls' which we used for one of our whole school narrative immersion weeks).

I was telling you about when I met Chris Riddell when I was at university and that was when he was promoting his platypus series of books. He has come such a long way since then and it just shows what you can achieve when you focus and do your best. I am so pleased that he has achieved this status especially after such a big name of Malorie Blackman whose Noughts and Crosses series totally gripped me for weeks (there were four books)!

We loved that Chris Riddell drew the previous eight laureates and have had a go at drawing Chris RIddell this week using ideas from some of his books. Great job year 5! I think we can tell that lots of you used ideas from 'Graveyard'!

What do you think about Chris Riddell becoming the new Children's Laureate? Are you inspired to read one of his books? Or try his style of drawing for your illustrations?
