Curriculum Intent
Here at Highfield, we believe that all pupils are entitled to an education which is meaningful, memorable, rich, vibrant and ambitious for all learners, including those with SEN/D, our vulnerable and most able pupils.
Our over-arching whole school theme is:
'Look Up, Look out, Look Beyond'
This theme encompasses a topic based approach along with NC objectives. It allows children to be creative, interested in their own learning and environment, see links in what they are learning, question stereotypes and be aware of which opportunities are available and encourage them in their aspirations and thoughts beyond their locality and experiences.
Highfield’s broad, balanced and coherently planned and sequenced curriculum builds on prior knowledge and has the rigour and standards needed to provide breadth and depth and develop the essential skills, knowledge, vocabulary and understanding which are the building blocks for later life.
Our aim is to enable our children to be enthusiastic, curious and resilient life-long learners who are fully prepared for the challenges that await them in their next stage of their educational journey.
