To celebrate National Science Week at Highfield we all took part in independent scientific enquiries linked to our chosen theme of 'Feed the Birds'. Our themed was linked to the pending move to our new school with the key outcome to attract more wild life to our new school grounds.

Reception and Nursery linked their science work with their visit to Wepre Park and also make bird feeders to put around our new playground to attract local birds.

Year 1 investigated and researched the birds in our local area focusing on migration. They also read the book Follow the Sparrow by Julie Donaldson.

Year 2 researched local birds and created their own information books. They also completed an investigation to find out what food birds prefer making four different bird feeders.

Year 4 had a very busy week identifying the needs birds have and investigating what we have in our school area. They then researched the habitats of local birds and teamed up with their year 2 buddies to become birds scavenging natural materials and making their own nests.

Year 5 used the fantastic book of The Robot and the Bluebird by David Lucas to lead their learning. They looked at the migration of birds in great detail and how scientist track this. Added to this they also used the book to create some bird inspired artwork.

Year 6 alongside their busy SAT's schedule Year 6 investigated the variation of birds beaks and the evolution of birds.

On Friday we had an assembly sharing and celebrating all our hard work and all children got their own bird house to take home to continue the bird watching!
