Bookworms

Celebrating our year...

'It has been a pleasure to work with the Bookworms this year. Their ideas have been considered, fun, practical, varied and most importantly they have inspired children to love books and storytelling.' Ms Dowling

During the Autumn Term the BookWorms set about making their own notebooks ready collect ideas and suggestions from the class. They also canvassed pupils on the Top Ten Books to buy for the school library. This was a tougher job than expected as the choice of books and authors was so varied! They also ran a competition to write and illustrate your own book of any genre. This was publicised in a special Book Worm assembly. The winners each received a Book Token - the group felt it was a fitting prize! These were also awarded in another assembly.

The Spring Term brought together our long term aim of providing a place in school where children could swap books for free. The Share Shed now proudly sits outside our main school entrance for everyone to enjoy. This took a lot of planning and the Bookworms thought carefully about the type and location of the shed as well as the choice of books that would start the shed off - they even donated some of their own books from home!

Miss Chard asked the Bookworms to lead the World Book Day celebrations, too which became a whole week of different activities for classes to enjoy.

The Summer Term we thought that we should give thanks to those volunteers who come into school each week to read with our children. A thank you card, sweet treat and book mark was the chosen gift - all handmade of course!

Here are some reflections from the Bookworms:

'I've really enjoyed being a Bookworm because I've actually got to do some fun stuff like designing and writing a book. I've just loved being a part of the Bookworm community'

'We made our own special book worm notebooks - I liked that!'

'We did stuff for other people like swapping books'

'I liked the Book competition - we picked Daisy's book because she was very talented'

'It has been good to be part of the Bookworm group. We got some good ideas - we ran a competition to write a short book we made a book shed... it was exciting!'
