Celebrating our year...
As part of our work to promote pupils’ understanding of democracy and its relevance to our school community, Mrs Henderson and I have led a project with a group of Year 5's exploring the importance of democratic values. The children have learned about the British Parliament, how voting works, and the wider concept of democracy, including comparisons with systems such as the U.S. presidential election and figures like Donald Trump.
Through debates and group discussions, pupils developed their ability to form and express opinions respectfully. We collaborated with other schools, including BEV schools and Blacon High, to broaden their perspectives and share ideas. This project has raised the profile of democracy within our group and helped pupils understand how these principles impact their lives both inside and outside the classroom.
