Wellbeing Champions

Celebrating our year...

Autumn – The wellbeing champions come up with the idea to have a wellbeing box in each classroom, that would have a range of materials to support children during times of overwhelm. This box was created for each induvial class and the needs of the children. The wellbeing champions were able use mock boxes to make their bespoke boxes. The intension of the box was to support children to be ‘ready for learning’ and self-regulate their own emotions. It was designed to be used in line with the school behaviour system, when children are in the ‘rest area’. The boxes include a range of tools such as; fidget toys, mindfulness colouring, journaling, finger breathing and more. The purpose of this is for children to start building up their own personal toolkit to self-regulate.

Spring – We looked at developing a wellbeing questionnaire to gain as wider understanding of children holistic wellbeing. The purpose of the questionnaire was to have a better understanding of how children are actually coping and to give children an ‘anonymous’ voice about how they are feeling about their own lives. We wanted to streamline the questionnaire so the data could be used in the next academic year to tailor the pastoral support provided for children.

As part of the new school plan to develop unstructured times of the school day. The wellbeing group will support the development and the monitoring of the effectiveness on the ‘quiet area’.

Summer – The wellbeing champions monitor the wellbeing area and are available for other children to talk to if they need some support. They are able to talk to them about how their day is going etc.

We ran a Wellbeing assembly and the wellbeing champions all picked different activities to lead during the week. They lead a range of activities including yoga, making your own fidgets and mindfulness colouring. Children from other year groups supported each other to lead different activities.
